Oyu Tolgoi LLC has established a scholarship programme to assist the education of Mongolian nationals. The Oyu Tolgoi Scholarship Programme provides financial assistance for qualified applicants to obtain degrees in the fields of mining engineering, operations, science and technology, environment and earth sciences. Oyu Tolgoi is offering scholarship opportunities to study at well-known universities in USA, Canada and Australia.
Oyu Tolgoi LLC is pleased to announce the start of the application period for the 2012 Overseas Scholarship Programme.
The scholarships are awarded based on merit as measured by academic performance, leadership potential, proactive community service record and sound future vision including genuine, long term employment interest in the growing the Mongolian mining sector.
The overseas scholarship programme will cover tuition fees, living expenses, airfare, health insurance, visa fee and university admission fees. The scholarship programme supports study in most fields of mining engineering, operations, science and technology, environment and earth sciences including: mining engineering, operations, mineral processing, metallurgy, geology, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, environmental policy, energy, IT management, and economics related to mining.
General Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants must be a citizen of Mongolia.
For Undergraduate study
- Be a second or third year full time student at an accredited Mongolian higher education institute
- Have a minimum GPA of 3.2 or higher
- Have taken a TOEFL or IELTS exam within the last two years
(A minimum TOEFL score of 550 PBT, 79 IBT, or a 6.5 overall score on the IELTS exam). If you don’t have a valid TOEFL score yet, please take an institutional TOEFL exam.
For Graduate study (MA and MS)
Essential criteria:
- Be a recent graduate and hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited higher education institution recognised by overseas universities
- Graduated with a minimum GPA of 3.2 or higher
- Have taken a TOEFL or IELTS exam within the last two years
(A minimum TOEFL score of 550 PBT, 79 IBT, or a 6.5 overall score on the IELTS exam). If you don’t have a valid TOEFL score yet, please take an institutional TOEFL exam.
Desirable criteria:
- A recent GRE exam score.
Applicants who meet the above mentioned essential criteria are eligible to apply for the overseas scholarship programme. English language training will be available to successful applicants to improve their English language skills to meet the overseas universities’ requirements.
Application Process
Step 1. Applicants should submit:
- A completed application form.
- An official academic transcript with an official English translation for undergraduate applicants.
Or
- Certified copy of Bachelor’s degree with transcript (with an official English translation) for graduate applicants.
- Certified copy of TOEFL or IELTS exam result.
- Certified copy of GRE exam result if available (only for graduate applicants).
- Two letters of recommendation from university professors and/or current employer (with an official English translation).
- Statement of Academic Goals – Please attach an essay in English with 500-600 words (TimesNew Roman, size 12, single spaced) describing your intended field of study, your career objectives and how you can contribute to the social and economic development of Mongolia through the knowledge and skills acquired from your study overseas
- 1 passport size photograph.
Step 2. Materials will be reviewed by the Oyu Tolgoi and Zorig Foundation scholarship committee
Applicants will be assessed according to whether they satisfy the above eligibility criteria and conditions. Short listed candidates will be invited for an interview for final selection.
Step 3. Application and supporting documents of selected students will be sent to overseas universities for admission
Overseas universities will review applicants’ materials through their admission criteria and make an admission decision based on the applicants’ materials.
The Oyu Tolgoi Scholarship will be offered to those applicants who are successfully accepted by an overseas university.
Application deadline is May 16, 2011
Short listed candidates will be invited for an interview that will take place in late May.
Materials submitted late or incomplete will not be considered.
