The opportunity

We are looking for one (1) Superintendent Civil in Oyu Tolgoi LLC – Underground Mining-ELHL Construction department based at Oyu Tolgoi mine with the roster of 14 days on and 14 days off.

The purpose of this role is a key member of the Owner’s Construction team who oversees the execution of civil construction works performed by the contractor to ensure compliance with safety, schedule, cost and quality requirements.

What the role entails

• Accountable for delivery of assigned civil construction packages
• Overseeing and monitor the performance of the works contractor(s) to ensure compliance with schedule, cost and quality requirements
• Engaging with the works contractors to ensure construction activities are performed safely and in accordance with Rio Tinto standards and procedures
• Undertaking field and engineering documentation audits to ensure compliance with Legislative requirements and Rio Tinto project engineering guidance and standards
• Providing technical support and direction on engineering matters, building on and sharing of the lessons learned
• Participating in design and constructability reviews to identify opportunities to improve execution and/or operations of the facilities
• Monitoring and expediting procurement activities for construction materials and equipment contracts
• Preparing progress reports covering critical issues and performance against cost and schedule baselines
• Maintaining relationships with key stakeholders to drive a culture of collaboration, participation and improvement
• Coordinating with the Mining team to address interface issues and support the operational readiness activities required to transition from construction through to operations and providing coaching and mentoring to direct reports.

What you will need for this role

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management or related field
• At least 5 years work experience in Construction engineer or Engineering or otherwise the significant practical experience and on the job training
• Fluently in English and Mongolian (Both Written & Spoken)
• Manages relationships with contractor teams, monitors compliance with SLAs & provides resolution for any quality issues, budget shortfalls etc
• Understands safety & quality control procedures for Oyu Tolgoi & drives adherence within the contractor teams
