The opportunity

We are looking for six (6) Engineer Blasting in Oyu Tolgoi LLC Underground Operation–Production department based at Oyu Tolgoi Mine site with the roster of 14 days on and 14 days off.

The purpose of this role is to provide charging and blasting services and support on mine development and production activities for the newly formed UG Production team in line with the company policies and procedures to achieve the team’s objectives and targeted plan

What the role entails

• Receipt and return explosive products from Explosives Magazines
• Conduct Explosives Handling and Transportation
• Conduct Explosives charging of Lateral Development, Production Blasting, Vertical Development, Secondary Breaking of Oversized materials,
• Accurate and Correct documentation of explosive consumption and charging parameters, including accurate record keeping of Blast passport documentation.
• Ensure statutory compliance in line with Mongolian Blasting regulations for the safe transportation, storage and use of explosives.
• Report any unaccounted for, lost or stolen explosive materials
• Report any safety occurrences specifically related to explosives, charging or blasting or re-entry, operations
• Record and Report Misfires in line with OT Procedures
• Conduct mine area clearance of personnel and equipment in preparation for charging and blasting activities
• Conduct Blasting / Shot firing Activities Underground in a safe and responsible manner inline with OT blasting procedures
• Operate explosives transport equipment and Explosives charging equipment as required inline with business requirements.
• Compile In-Field Blast Passports for the safe
• Coordinate work hours of self and a learn in own area of responsibility to be the most productive
• Adjust personnel shift schedules to ensure that there should be no shortage of manpower and equipment shall be operated at full capacity
• Ensure complying with OT site HSE procedures and standards within the scopes of Labour Law, OHS Laws and refulations, Law on Controlling and Circulation of Explosive Devices of Mongolia, and ensure that continuous improvement and development measures are taken to improve such awareness to personnel and providing controls on implementations.
• Undetake regular workplace inspections in compliance with HSE policy and procedures and related laws and legislations to ensure Zero Incident and no adverse impact to environment and human health
• Demonstrate good examples of maintaining and taking appropriate care (use economically) of PPE to mine crews
• Demonstrate good examples of filling out relevant documents such as JHA/TRACK evaluation /CCC effectively at work areas and ensure regular control on their executions and implementations
• Provide compliance with 7 Lifesaving Rules and ensure compliance by employees
• Immediately report incidents and injuries to the direct management and relevants teams (with the aid of HSE department) accordingly and take part in incident investigations

What you will need for this role

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering
• At least 1 year relevant experience, or otherwise the significant practical experience and on the job training
• Eligible for Mongolian Blasting license
• Hold current Explosives Handling Permit
• B,C,M class driving license
• Intermediate level of English written and verbal is required
• Must have a good understanding of Mongolian Blasting Regulations
• Demonstrated commitment to safety and following prescribed safe work practices
• Demonstrated work ethic and motivation to ensure business objectives are met by the team you lead and teams you interact with
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Previous experience working underground highly regarded
