The opportunity
We are looking for one (1) Manager Tailings and Hydrogeology in Technical and Integrated Planning departement based at Oyu Tolgoi mine site with roster of 50/50 (Site and Ulaanbaatar based).
The primary purpose of this role is specifically focussed on developing, improving and supporting current and ongoing tailings and water storage facilities operation and development activities, monitoring the site water balance. Manage a team of technical specialists to the safe operation of Tailings and Water Storage Facilities to ensure that plans are implemented as designed. Identify and ensure appropriate application of solutions to tailings and water storage problems leveraging existing solutions and procedures. To implement, evaluate, and interpret hydrogeological work programs and outcomes for all water related aspects for Oyu Tolgoi mine.
What the role entails
- Provides personal and pro-active approach to health, safety, and environmental stewardship and promote a work culture where safety is emphasized through personal awareness and accountability at the workplace
- Provides technical leadership to operations on tailings and water storage facilities, and works with leaders to ensure that necessary support is available from both resources internal and external to the organisation
- Ensures conformance to the D5 (Management of tailings and water storage facilities, the standard) Technical Standard for the safe operation of Tailings and Water Storage Facilities as well as management of changes processes
- Develops an optimal strategy for tailings storage facility development, deposition and water conservation, including planning interfaces with the mine operations team
- Undertakes and maintains an effective water balance that clearly identifies water utilization and water loss
- Supports assets in responding to significant tailings and water storage facility issues, and developing corrective action plans
- Performs audits, ensures implementation of action plan
- Prepares operating and capital budgets related to the tailings and water strategic effort
- Develops a work environment that embraces open communication between all relevant groups in tailings and water management
- Supports implementation of best practice for hydrogeology disciplines and specialties
- Implement, evaluate, and interpret hydrogeological work programs and outcomes for all water related aspects for Oyutolgoi mine.
What you will need for this role
- Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline is preferred, but progressive mining experience will be considered.
- Understand how to manage multiple stakeholders who are geographically dispersed, senior and outside the Mining team.
- Experience delivering, maintaining and supporting underground communications systems including digital radio and networking, vehicle interaction management, automation and fleet monitoring and management systems.
- Experience in developing equipment or technology maintenance strategies, execution plans and budgets.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, in Mongolian and English is required
- Able to monitor the execution of mine plan and addresses any operational risks/issues to achieve delivery of ore at required quality and tonnage;
- Able to ensure effective utilisation of all mining resources (equipment and personnel) and compliance with the mining plan to achieve desired production targets;
- Minimises equipment downtime through effective use of the asset health monitoring systems;
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, in Mongolian and English is required
