The opportunity

 

We are looking for one (1) Geologist Structural in Oyu Tolgoi LLC – Technical and Integrated Planning – Mine Technical Services department based at Oyu Tolgoi mine site and Ulaanbaatar office 50/50 bases

The purpose of this role is to coordinate the activities of the Open Pit Geology team to deliver outcomes as targeted by Open Pit Mine Planning. The role is critical in ensuring timely implementation of geological processes into structure geology, grade control, input into key decisions, resource, production, and reconciliation.

This role ensures that critical schedules from structure geology are not delayed through lack of timely action and coordination of pit mapping activities or to highlight areas of sub-optimal exploitation of the 3D modelling.

Without this role, there is limited ability to contribute to critical information for mine planning or highlight areas of sub-optimal exploitation of the resource.

What the role entails

 

  • Actively participate in all HSEC related activities and demonstrate commitment to established standards through actions of self and encouraging positive behavior in others.
  • Day-to-day coordination of open-pit geological functions including:
  • Pit geological mapping, diamond and blast hole logging.
  • Build a working knowledge of systems that ensure that mine geology data and documents are properly managed throughout the resource custodianship and that the most updated and complete version is stored in an accessible and secure infrastructure.
  • Participate in structure modelling issues (i.e. structure modelling, some related reports, grade control and resource) by working closely with the geology, Geotech, mining, and resource teams.
  • Assist in the identification of high-risk areas and development of processes to mitigate such as risks.
  • Identifying best practice through experience, diverse learning opportunities, and develop work processes to implement such best practices.
  • Collaborate with own team and peers and work closely with contractors in the mine environment to ensure effective application and dissemination of best practice.
  • Keep abreast of developments within the field of open pit mining geology and utilize this information to facilitate the on-going development of the program for further discovery.
  • Deliver within the work areas to achieve individual and organizational success through collaboration and understanding and embracing the values
  • Maintain a high degree of professionalism and business ethics.
  • Promote Oyu Tolgoi’s reputation within the industry and government as a preferred partner by clear demonstration of corporate technical ability, economic credibility and commitment to sustainability.
  • Recognize the business drivers for a successful open pit operation in a mine operation and how geology plays an integral role in such success.

What you will need for this role

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geosciences, or relevant discipline or equivalent or higher education obtained through degrees or diplomas from academic college or universities.
  • At least 3 years’ experience working in Geology, Geotech and Mining.
  • Work effectively in a team environment and have good communication skills.
  • Understand, and support our policies and procedures.
  • The role requires intermediate and/or above level of English skill.
