Young environmental leaders visit Oyu Tolgoi site

 

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia (ot.mn) – Oyu Tolgoi, the major copper and gold mine in the South Gobi, was visited by representatives of the Environmental Leadership program of the Zorig Foundation yesterday.

Oyu Tolgoi supports young specialists and graduates within the framework of the Environmental Leadership and Youth Leadership program of the Zorig Foundation. The mine partners with multiple stakeholders to advance the social and economic educational development of Mongolia.

E.Erbold, a member of the Youth Leadership program said: “Every day I get information about Oyu Tolgoi through the media. However, when I came here and actually saw everything, I began to understand that really exciting development work is going on here on a huge scale. I want to say thank you to Oyu Tolgoi for giving us this opportunity.”

Oyu Tolgoi takes representatives of the Zorig Foundation to the site every year as part of its relationship with the NGO.

The Zorig Foundation site visit was organized by the Stakeholder and Environmental departments at Oyu Tolgoi.

At least 9 out of 10 employees will be Mongolian once the mine is in production and Oyu Tolgoi is investing US$58 million dollars (78 billion MNT) in training and education and an additional US$27 million dollars (36 billion MNT) in the Workforce Employment Project designed to help address the general skills shortage in Mongolia
