As per the Investment Agreement and the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Oyu Tolgoi LLC and the Ministry of Education of Culture and Science, Oyu Tolgoi LLC established scholarship programmes granting 200 domestic scholarships and 30 international scholarships over five years from 2010. In 2016, Oyu Tolgoi continued the scholarship programme on its own initiative and 315 students have been awarded since 2010.
The Gobi Scholarship Programme started in 2005 and has supported 379 students from 15 soums of Umnugovi aimag. Scholarship administration was transferred in 2016 from the Oyu Tolgoi LLC to the Gobi Oyu Development Support Fund.
