Since 2002, various socio-economic and environmental impact assessment studies have been conducted in and around the Oyu Tolgoi site to assess the potential impact of our operations. These help us to determine how to prevent and otherwise minimise and mitigate any potential negative effects, and maximise the positive benefits of the project.
Environmental compliance
We operate in full compliance with Mongolian laws, regulations, standards and requirements. We work in partnership with the Government of Mongolia, provincial and district administrations, NGOs, local communities, and others to ensure we meet our commitments.
To maintain transparency during our operations, we publish all our environmental studies, monitoring, summary reports, and plans. These include:
- Environmental Impact Assessments
- Environmental and Social Impact Assessment
- Environmental Protection Plans and Monitoring Programmes
- Annual Environmental Reports
ISO 14001 Environmental management system and OHSAS 18001 health standard.
Oyu Tolgoi obtained certification to ISO 14001 Environmental Management System standard and OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System standard in January 2013. Since then we have successfully completed annual audits of our standards.
