Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia (ot.mn) – Oyu Tolgoi and Energy Resources signed a memorandum of understanding last Friday to work together on efforts to maintain and protect biodiversity in the South Gobi.

The MoU will allow the two companies to share information on biodiversity monitoring, particularly along the road  down from the mining sites to Gashuun-Sukhait.

Both companies believe it is important that all mining companies operating in the region should be involved in wildlife protection

“Oyu Tolgoi knows the importance of protecting biodiversity, and we are always thinking about how we can best mitigate our impact in the South Gobi”, said Mr Gili. “We are very excited about this co-operation – we have long recognised that we will be more effective if we work alongside other partners and stakeholders in the minerals industry.”

The first phase of cooperation will last until end of 2013.
