Oyu Tolgoi is working closely with government health inspectors after 67 workers have become ill in the last 24 hours at its South Camp. South Camp holds 480 of the project’s 12,000 people working in the South Gobi on the Oyu Tolgoi project.
The workers are being treated by a team of doctors at the camp. The symptoms being experienced by the workers include diarrhoea.
The sick workers have been isolated from the other members at the South Camp.
Oyu Tolgoi has arranged for extra medical assistance from Ulaanbaatar to be sent to the South Camp. Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the illness. It is too early to speculate the cause of the illness.
The South Camp is about 40kms away from the Oyu Tolgoi main camp.
The main camp and all other camps are not affected.
