Oyu Tolgoi to host Prime Minister and guests for project update and site tour

Khanbogd, Umnugobi – Oyu Tolgoi LLC is pleased to host His Excellency, Prime Minister Sukhbaatar Batbold along with representatives of the government cabinet, parliamentarians and a group of Mongolian journalists on August 25-26, 2010.

As part of the Prime Minister’s delegation’s travel, their visit to Oyu Tolgoi will include a tour of current construction work and a presentation on the status of the project. Full-scale site construction commenced in April 2010 and the project now employs over 3,000 Mongolians.

Keith Marshall, President and Chief Executive Officer of Oyu Tolgoi LLC said: “It is an honour and privilege for us to host Prime Minister S. Batbold and members of his Cabinet. We are looking forward to showing the extensive progress we have made since signing our Investment Agreement and explaining the stages of construction that will lead to our first copper-gold production in 2013.”

“Oyu Tolgoi will have a significant social impact on Mongolia; we will be demonstrating our commitment to Mongolian employment and to using Mongolian suppliers and businesses. This visit will enable us to show the Prime Minister and Cabinet the state of the art technology that is being used at the mine.”

The delegation’s visit will include:

  • foundation work for the copper concentrator
  • lateral development work in the underground mine (1,300 metres below surface)
  • 10-metrediameter Shaft # 2, head-frame, ventilation shaft and conveyor construction
  • three concrete-producing batch plants

The group also will visit the site of the Oyu Tolgoi discovery, Shaft # 1, and the location of the future open-pit mine.
