Oyu Tolgoi Environmental department team contains Mongolia’s leading specialists

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia (ot.mn) – The Environmental department of Oyu Tolgoi LLC contains 46 staff, 45 of whom are relatively young, highly educated and skilled Mongolians. 36 are based on the Oyu Tolgoi mine site in Southern Gobi while nine excluding the Department Manager, operate in the corporate headquarters in Ulaanbaatar.

The Environmental department has a number of highly qualified specialists and is often referred to as the number one environmental department in Mongolia for its highly competent team. Its surveys and assessments have been conducted in partnership with related professional institutions operating in the environment sector. The team is expanding its scope for improving the corporate identity, furthering Mongolia’s reputation to be known on the global level.

The Environment department is divided into seven sub-teams, each tasked with different aspects of environmental performance including compliance with legislations, management systems, water, monitoring and land, training, chemicals, waste and biodiversity research. This showcases how Oyu Tolgoi’s operation complies with international benchmark standards and how detailed baseline and impact assessments are conducted in order to care for the environment.

In 2003 the Oyu Tolgoi Environmental team commenced comprehensive and integrated environmental impact assessments and baseline surveys, which are frequently revised and updated grounded on project scope and preliminary feasibility findings. To date, the team haves developed an additional 23 baseline surveys, impact assessment reports and other related reports, which are fully reflected in the corporate environment performance.
