– Vocational Education Training Center’s Training of Trainers (TOT) Programme will be implemented through 2011-2014 –
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia – Oyu Tolgoi LLC has implemented the largest training project to train the Mongolian labour force. This project includes the construction of three new Technological Schools and the renovation of four Vocational Education Training Centres (VETC) in Mongolia. Also included in the large project are the TOT Programme for VETC, Training of National Specialised Dedicated Employees for Oyu Tolgoi LLC, Training of Mining Engineers and Technical Workers, as well as international and national scholarship programmes.
On 25 May the TOT Programme for VETC, completed training for the first 90 teachers. This programme involved representatives from all vocational schools in Mongolia. Successful trainers obtained specialisation in 'Training and Assessment Certificate 4' in accordance with the training standards of Australia. The training programme has been implemented jointly with ETAS an Australian professional group.
Michael Beck, Vice President, Human Resources and Capability Development at Oyu Tolgoi LLC said “The Oyu Tolgoi project has implemented a project that will train 3,300 people in three years, preparing specialised employees at the national level. Oyu Tolgoi will be providing funding of over US$300 million dollars for the project and we will supply equipment worth 3 billion MNT to the VETCs. Having completed the programme the trainers are able to operate the equipment, conduct training and upgrade their competency”. O.Galjav, Trainer at VETC, Uvurkhangai aimag, who attended the training, shared his impression saying “I am happy to become one of the first trainers to learn the competency based training system and methods to develop, conduct and assess it, practice in training programmes, and share and jointly develop the programme with the trainers in the region”.
The basis of a country’s development is a competent and qualified labour force. There is a constant need to develop vocational schools and trainers. VETC’s TOT Programme will run from 2011 through to 2014, training a total of 1,200 trainers.
