Oyu Tolgoi will build a Technological School of Excellence in Nalaikh district

– The School of Excellence will be the most progressive and modern vocational school in Mongolia –

Construction of the school complex includes a 6,000 square metre area of classrooms and staff facilities for 450 students and 150 teachers. A 2,500 square metre area with a 170 bed dormitory will be completed in 2013.

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia – Oyu Tolgoi LLC is implementing the largest vocational training programme in Mongolia. The mine is financing the programme with an investment of 110 billion MNT. They’re building two new mining schools of excellence and upgrading three existing vocational schools with building extensions, new student dormitories and repairs.

Oyu Tolgoi, who implement what they pledge, presented a model of the Nalaikh Technological School of Excellence to the district authorities yesterday.

Ole Saeverud, Deputy Director for Special Projects at Oyu Tolgoi said “This school is not only a large investment in Mongolia, but also in the world.  As the mining sector develops rapidly in the world, training of mining specialists has become a priority. Oyu Tolgoi have recognised this need and we are building a  a mining school of excellence. This is a very large investment to make in Mongolia. The school will not only train mining specialists, but also train their teachers”.

Construction of the Technological School of Excellence paves the way for a local development boom and employment generation in the district. The exterior design of the complex building is very advanced and the use of environmentally friendly designs and materials takes Mongolian architecture to new level. In addition, the school will be technologically progressive, energy efficient and will create a comfortable learning environment for the students. Michael Beck, Oyu Tolgoi Vice President of Human Resources and Capability Development, emphasised that the building is designed by a Mongolian company and will be built by Mongolian workers.

We asked B.Buyandelger, Governor of the Nalaikh district about the vocational training programme. He said “our ancestors left a vast wealth for the future generation, therefore, we are very lucky. Mongolians should equally benefit from this wealth. I want to thank Oyu Tolgoi who are doing this on behalf of the Nalaikh residents. Sincere thanks to Oyu Tolgoi management and all of its personnel who are raising the name Mongolia in the world. We are very happy that this development work and large investment is being made in our district”.
