Mine brings the latest technology expertise to Mongolia

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia (ot.mn) – Oyu Tolgoi, the gold and copper mine under development in the South Gobi, is once again at the forefront of bringing international best practice to Mongolia.
The Information Technology department at Oyu Tolgoi is currently training approximately 30 young Mongolians in ITIL, the Information Technology Infrastructure Library. This is the first time ITIL training has been run in Mongolia.
ITIL is the world’s most widely used standard for IT service management and the training gives the student's globally competitive skills.
Nanjid Nyamgerel, a Supervisor on the Oyu Tolgoi IT Service Desk said: “I have learned a lot of new skills. Through ITIL I can talk to people from all over the world. It’s kind of like learning a new language.”

ITIL has been adopted by some of the world’s leading companies including Microsoft, Barclays Bank, HSBC and Hewlett Packard.
The Oyu Tolgoi students took the Foundation Course in ITIL which took three days. Four different courses were run, two in Ulaanbaatar and two at the mine site. Students needed to score at least 65 per cent to pass.
Oyu Tolgoi will be following up with further courses in the New Year.
