Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia – Oyu Tolgoi LLC and Erdenet Mining Corporation today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work together for the further development of health, safety, environment and community (HSEC) standards and practices within the Mongolian mining industry.
The MoU lays the groundwork for the two companies to share experience, expertise, and local knowledge focused on developing greater awareness of HSEC issues; educating on best practices; and help build greater capability in these areas across the Mongolian mining community.
Andrew Woodley – President and CEO, Oyu Tolgoi said: “We are pleased to work with Erdenet to focus on the important areas of health, safety, environment and communities. There is much we can learn from each other and the MoU will bring together the unique skills and expertise of both companies, helping create greater capacity and capability across Mongolia’s mining sector in these areas.”
Ts.Davaatseren – General Director, Erdenet Mining Corporation said: “We’re happy to bring together our experience of successfully operating a major copper mine in Mongolia for decades, with Oyu Tolgoi, a new mine with world class technology and best practices. I believe this MoU will help extend our relations further, and make a major contribution to the Mongolian mining industry.”
The ceremony was attended by the Speaker of the Parliament Z.Enkhbold, Economic advisor to the Speaker D.Lkhagvasuren, Oyu Tolgoi Chairman G.Batsukh, Erdenes Oyu Tolgoi CEO D.Ganbold and senior executives of Erdenet Mining Corporation and Oyu Tolgoi LLC.
