Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia (ot.mn) – 15 supp;ier companies working across eight projects receive supplier awards.
All were congratulated on the enormous progress that they had helped Oyu Tolgoi achieve over the last year. All design consultants and contractors received awards – ore taken from the mine’s shafts from over 1.3 km down!
Contractors were keen to discuss their relationship with Oyu Tolgoi, and what the mine has meant for their company and their employees.
When I go to the site I take pictures, I bring them back and I tell my young workers that they should learn from Oyu Tolgoi and how it operates,” said architect Tserenpil from OSIB company, who has been working with Oyu Tolgoi for over four years. “Oyu Tolgoi is an exemplary organisation.”
Bayar, 24, a young Project Manager with Nemut Construction (a 100 per cent Mongolian company) that is working on the Vocational Training Centre in Dalanzadgad, said that: “Oyu Tolgoi puts a large emphasis on safety and the people we work with are very experienced, at the top of their specialisations. They give us the best teaching and guidance, keeping us safe. We have had no safety incidents.”
The majority of the contractors are working on buildings that will be used to educate some of the 3300 people that Oyu Tolgoi is training as part of the largest vocational training scheme in Mongolia’s history.
Part of our obligation is to develop youth and young people and provide them with opportunities and jobs,” said Oyu Tolgoi Deputy Director Colin Tipney.
“We want to develop our mine and its associated infrastructure for the benefit of Mongolia. These buildings will last for years and educate thousands of people,” he added.
