The opportunity

 

We are looking for one (1) Engineer QAQC Geotechnical in Mine Technical Services department based in Oyu Tolgoi mine site and Ulaanbaatar office 50/50 bases.

The primary purpose of this site-based role involves reconsolidation of analysing geotechnical data and quality control of the data for outcomes targeted by the Geotechnical Superintendent and the Senior Geotechnical Engineer. Development of reporting skills will be required as this role progresses. Work completed in this role has impacts on both the short and long term success of Oyu Tolgoi and it is critical that work is completed in a safe, professional and timely manner.

What the role entails

  • “The main responsibilities of the Engineer QA/QC Geotechnical role is to assist in all aspects of geotechnical design reconciliation process and data QA/QC, including:
  • Conducting geotechnical face mapping ensuring that relevant geotechnical data is collected including rock mass data and structural data relating to small and large scale joint roughness, joint alteration and joint water;
  • Coordinate the photogrammetry and seepage mapping data is collected as required/scheduled for the purpose of quality control and monitoring.
  • Provide QA/QC on all the collected data and maintain the database for this information
  • Assist the Senior Geotechnical Engineer with stockholder management through the supervision of core logging and sampling QA/QC process as described in the core logging procedure.
  • Conduct the hydrogeology data QA/QC (VWP, drain hole) and assist the Senior Geotechnical Engineer with delivery of Quarterly hydrogeology reconciliation and depressurization status report.
  • Conduct Bench & Design parameter reconciliation report as described on the reconciliation procedure.
  • Identify best practice through experience, diverse learning opportunities, and accepting guidance and mentorship from the Geotechnical Superintendent or Senior Geotechnical Engineer, and
  • Managing all HSEC related activities by anticipating current and future risks and setting and monitoring objectives to ensure standards are met.
  • As a Geotechnical Engineer at the Oyu Tolgoi Open Pit, you will also be required to fulfill other responsibilities which relate to the focus areas of collaboration, people, strategic effectiveness and projects, systems and processes, such as:
  • Collaborating with own team and peers in the mine environment to ensure effective application and dissemination of best practice, and;
  • Put safety first in all work to achieve safe production and act as a role model in demonstrating and living the OT green behaviours
  • Build good working relationships with everyone I work with
  • Be an effective team member of my department team
  • Interaction, pre-task risk assessment & performance management work
  • Ensure incidents are report

 

What you will need for this role

 

  • Undergraduate or equivalent or higher education obtained through degrees or diplomas from academic college or universities.
  • Geotechnic or Mining related disciplines
  • At least 3 years relevant experience, or otherwise the significant practical experience and on the job training
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and following prescribed safe work practices
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • An ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Proficiency in English upper intermediate level
