The opportunity

We are looking for two (2) Engineer Mining in Oyu Tolgoi LLC, Underground Mine Development department based at Oyu Tolgoi mine site with roster 14 days on and 14 days off.

The primary purpose of this role is to provide services and leadership support for mine development activities and management of portfolio of projects of the organisational unit in line with the company policies and procedures to achieve the team’s objectives and targeted plan.

What the role entails

  • Ensure risks are identified, mitigated and managed in all aspects of issued work plans.
  • Participate or facilitate as required in incident investigations, risk assessments, JHA’s, Safety Interactions and audits.
  • Appropriate frequency of underground inspections of development activities and accountable work areas to ensure compliance with intended plan, quality of work output of Mine contractors, schedule compliance and visibility in the field.
  • Assist and manage improvement projects with the Mine contractors relating to ground support trials and sequencing, dewatering, drill and blast design and optimisation, shotcrete transportation and slickline management.
  • Provision of quarterly and weekly planning and reporting cycles and input to the IPP.
  • Generate and maintain monthly to project timeframe tracking and compliance spreadsheets (micro-schedules).
  • Generate site dewatering/ventilation/compressed air and water services strategies in conjunction with technical services and ventilation departments.
  • Respond to technical questions from external parties and liaise throughout development phase with construction teams.
  • Develop written procedures and documentation to allow effective department function.
  • Monitor, report and analyse on rolling monthly basis including but not limited to:-
    • Physicals- meters advanced, ground support installed, shotcrete transport and QAQC.
    • Quality – over/under break, compliance to design, non-conformance, and wastage.
  • Assist in delivering schedule compliant delivery of the Integrated Weekly Execution Plan
  • Continuously identify, evaluate, and implement opportunities to improve the performance of underground activities, whilst ensuring the milestones and objectives of the Underground Development Project are achieved.
  • Close cooperation with Mine Coordination and Technical Services teams developing schedules and plans that are reflective of the Project milestones and that the fundamental objectives of the Underground Development
  • Attend, lead or run a variety of meetings associated with the Mine Development department.

What you will need for this role

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineer Mining or other relevant discipline
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in Mining sector.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • English competency in both written and oral is essential.
  • The ability to communicate design requirements with Mongolian and international engineering businesses
  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite, AutoDesk AEC, Deswik, 3D design software.
