Oyu Tolgoi recently recognised and honoured its best suppliers. "ekhlopat LLC was selected as the best supplier for its social responsibility performance. The company was founded ten years ago and supply mining equipment and spare parts as well as installation and maintenance services. The company works with major international producers known for the quality and reliability of their products and supplies leading brands to customers. Their comprehensive after-sales technical service is appreciated by clients which is why Mekhlopat was able to become one Mongolia’s leading mining equipment and parts suppliers. Mining equipment and spare parts are very diverse and the company supplies more than ten different types of equipment and parts including excavator buckets, teeth and protective equipment, chassis, steel cables, oil and lubricants for industrial equipment, diamond drilling tools, cables, tires and protective chains for open pit and underground mines, belts for conveyors, caterpillar tracks and bearings.

Until 2009 Mekhlopat specialised in Russian mining equipment, but five years ago they became the official Mongolian distributor of a dozen American, Canadian, Australian, Austrian, German, Chinese and Malaysian manufacturers such as Bradken, WireCo world group, Bel-Ray, Nexans Amer-Cable, Flexco, Ryco hydraulics, Diaset product, Pewag, Aneng, Thiele, Thaer, and Eurotire. 

Bradken is a leading global supplier of mining and industrial spare parts with over 90 years of history, 6,000 employees and branches in over 30 countries including Australia, US, Canada, New Zealand, China and UK. WireCo world group has over 80 years of experience in making steel and synthetic wire ropes and leads the global industry in quality, production and technology solutions. They account for 55 percent of the global steel wire rope market. Bel-Ray is a global company making oil and lubricants for mining and industrial equipment. Other companies working with Mekhoplat are also well known producers with many years of experience across the world.

Mekhlopat is an abbreviation from Russian word meaning power shovel. This is a name which Russians use to describe the Bucyrus-7495 excavator, currently used at Oyu Tolgoi. The company CEO is Ganbat Dulamsuren, a native of Malchin soum of Uvs aimag who graduated from the Mongolian National University as a geophysical engineer in 2002. He joined Mekhlopat after working for four years at the Baganuur mine. He started his career at Mekhlopat as a storeman.

Despite only employing a staff of ten, the company has accomplished a lot in this time. Their mission is “to fulfil all of your mining needs”, and their vision is described as “respecting our clients and reaching world standards in the supply of mining equipment.” Their values include a pioneering spirit, occupational safety and hygiene, transparency and open corporate governance and social responsibility. It was inspiring to see the young workforce, full of dashing spirit and positive thinking.

As well as their primary work focus, Mekhlopat is also involved in many programmes such as scholarships, libraries, children’s programmes, support for cottage industries, tree planting, eco travel, employee training and development and health protection. This extensive work is the reason the company was named as Oyu Tolgoi’s best supplier for social responsibility.

The company director D.Ganbat says: “We have worked with Oyu Tolgoi since 2010 after competing fairly and winning their open tenders. By supplying equipment and spare parts to this huge world class mine, we have been able to gain valuable experience. We learned a lot about safety, clean corporate governance, the value of social responsibility and the importance of providing quality goods and services.
