Technician Geotechnical – Caving

The opportunity

We are looking for three ( 3) Technician Geotechnical – Caving in Oyu Tolgoi LLC – Underground operations – Geoscience and Services department based at Oyu Tolgoi mine site with roster of 2 weeks on and 1 week off.

The purpose of this role is to provide technical services and support geotechnical activities of the functional area in line with the company policies and procedures to achieve the team’s objectives and targeted plan. This roles requires spending more than 90% of its working time in field, both underground and on surface.

What the role entails

• Assist in all aspects of the geotechnical programmes by:

Carries out as directed the collection of geotechnical information including: convergences, open-hole, TDR, tests Fibre Crete & Bolt pull, collects readings from MPBX & SMART cables, obtains data using the Z+F Laser Scans System; tests rock strength from face or drawpoint samples, supports damage mapping and ground support consumptions, supports on cycle times & related ground support issues, supports on geotechnical exclusion zone;

• Completes data entry for all data collected including: Damage Mapping, Support Consumption Mapping,
• Geotechnical Face Mapping, Bolt Pull Tests, Fibre Crete testing, MPBX & SMART cable readings, Development Reporting;
• Data obtained from core & structural logging, Tests data obtained through point load testing, Process data obtained underground uses the Z+F Laser Scans system in preparation for interpretation by geotechnical engineers, Assist with the input of data into graphic computer systems such as AutoCAD, Vulcan, GoCAD, Desk.
• Identifies best practice through experience, diverse learns opportunities, & accepts guidance & mentorship of the senior geotechnical officers to Prepares for future roles.
• Be aware of HSEC issues relates to yourself, team members & other people works in your vicinity, assess the risk for tasks being completed.
• Work with own team and peers in the mine environment to ensure work is done safely and in the most efficient manner.
• Maintaining a high degree of professionalism and business ethics.

What you will need for this role

• Undergraduate or equivalent or higher education obtained through degrees or diplomas from academic college or universities.
• Geology, Geoscience or relevant discipline.
• Relevant experience typically achieved through vocational trainings and equivalent practical experience or on-the-job training.
• Willing to spend most of working hours in Underground
• Develops schedules and prioritizes according to team objectives and goals
• Maintains budgets and inventory of geotechnical consumables to minimize disruptions in underground development
• Follows all safety procedures while executing day-to-day activities.
• Basic knowledge of Primavera or MS Project
