“My career with Oyu Tolgoi began very early so I love this company,” O.Yondonsambuu, a senior officer from the Khangurd LLC says sincerely. He has worked with Oyu Tolgoi for many years now after completing his graduate work as an auto engineer. He used to transport food, machinery and equipment from Ulaanbaatar to Khanbogd for use at the Oyu Tolgoi mine until 2012 when he joined one of OT’s supplier companies, Khangurd.
Khangurd is contracted by Oyu Tolgoi to control dust at the mine site, supply the mine with water for both industrial purposes and human consumption, and waste management. Khangurd owns about a dozen special purpose vehicles and provides jobs to more than 50 drivers who work in three shifts at the mine.
Yondonsambuu expressed his satisfaction working for Oyu Tolgoi: “We started working as Oyu Tolgoi’s supplier in June last year after our company was awarded a three-year contract in an open tender,” he said. “The most important part of working for Oyu Tolgoi is the high priority given to labour safety. Our company is responsible for the wages, social medical insurance of its workers. While Oyu Tolgoi supplies the fuel and lubricants. Oyu Tolgoi has successfully completed its construction phase and is now in transition to becoming an operating business, which is proceeding quite smoothly. We look to the future with great hope and optimism,” remarked Yondonsambuu about his work.
Smiling, he said that he is in love with Oyu Tolgoi with which he began his working career when the first shaft at the underground was first being built. He originally hails from Arkhangai aimag but he has even moved both his parents to Khanbogd. A person like Yondonsambuu, who is optimistic about his future and is happy about his work, can take such a decisive move.
