The workers that had fallen ill at the Oyu Tolgoi South Camp are under observation, resting comfortably and will be available for work in the coming days.
Oyu Tolgoi is working closely with government health inspectors to find the cause of the illness. It is suspected food poisoning but this will not be confirmed until tests are complete in a few days.
Some 84 people were affected out of the 480 people who are at the South Camp. Only four workers are still receiving treatment. All the cases were mild.
Oyu Tolgoi will be working with the contractors that run our camps to ensure it doesn’t happen again. Our number one priority is the health and safety of our workers and contractors.
The South Camp is about 40kms away from the Oyu Tolgoi main camp. The main camp and all other camps were not affected.
