Geomandal’s continuous development

Since those early days, Geomandal has developed and grown continuously, now employing 400 staff on the Oyu Tolgoi project alone. The company created an additional 40 jobs in 2012.

Hundreds of Mongolian national companies have been involved in the development and construction of Oyu Tolgoi. One of them is Geomandal LLC. When the Oyu Tolgoi deposit was first discovered, 15 years ago, Geomandal provided the first small camp at Oyu Tolgoi, made up of just ten gers. The company was awarded the very first best supplier award by Oyu Tolgoi.

Since those early days, Geomandal has developed and grown continuously, now employing 400 staff on the Oyu Tolgoi project alone. The company created an additional 40 jobs in 2012.

Speaking about their achievements, Geomandal LLC’s Procurement Manager, P.Naranbaatar said: We’ve managed five or six long and short term camps each year across the country and we have gained invaluable expertise from this. We’ve continually been open to learning from international standards to improve health and safety and environmental management. We have recently introduced the global standard, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points system into our catering service.”

The company is very focused on delivering international standards for safety. In January, Geomandal began introducing the international standards OHSAS 18001:2002. A crucial part of the businesses development, this was followed by the recognition of the company as one of Oyu Tolgoi’s nine leading suppliers for 2012.

The service offered by Geomandal is a relatively new kind of business in Mongolia and so the necessary skilled workforce is sometimes lacking. Geomandal is engaged in an extensive training programme to upgrade the professional skills of its workforce. Geomandal employees report that they learn a lot from working on the Oyu Tolgoi project. Geomandal employees also have access to a good system of remuneration and incentives.

Geomandal LLC wants to engage further with Oyu Tolgoi in the future and even more importantly, is committed to making a tangible and effective contribution to the development of Mongolia. Geomandal was selected as best medium supplier of December.
