Evolving from small household enterprise to the best supplier

B.Khuyag, a resident of Khanbogd soum of Umnugobi aimag, has a profession of layout designer. Building upon his profession, he began providing a wide range of home-based services like making name cards, invitations, certificates, taking and printing photos. Like other small producers he decided to further expand production and in July 2011 he met local procurement staff of Oyu Tolgoi LLC, and agreed to sell his handicraft items on Oyu Tolgoi project site. This helped him increase the sales.

Then he participated in competitive bidding for supply of various safety signs and boards announced by Oyu Tolgoi LLC. He began supplying Oyu Tolgoi from July 2012. It started as individual business, but there are now three employees.

As the activities had diversified and its scope expanded, he set up in April 2012 a company named Anir Khur. They now provide a wide range of services such as producing various boards, safety signs, road signs, information boards, sample bags, certificates, invitations, business cards, and taking and developing instant photos.

Increase in number of people having a job and source of income make us feel content. We have also renewed our equipment. It is critical that such success is not limited only to us but extends to the hundreds of local Mongolian suppliers.”

The company plans to create new jobs, increase staffing with 6 to 8 more employees and expand the business. Intensive development of local SMEs has versatile positive impact like new job generation and increased tax to the government. These small and medium producers had expanded own business mostly from the home-based microenterprises. Umnugobi aimag, Khanbogd soum-based Anir Khur Company is one example of such success story.
