Generating new jobs locally

Recently Zag Company has built and handed over an extension and dormitory of Polytechnic College, a Darkhan-Uul aimag-based subsidiary of University of Science and Technology with the Oyu Tolgoi LLC funding.

Although Zag LLC is a contractor of the construction works, it had been developed and strengthened extensively as result of collaboration with the large-scale international project.

Mongolia has been experiencing an economic growth. There are many companies contributing to the growth. One of these companies is Zag LLC. Zag Company, one of the veterans of Mongolian private sector was set up in 1990, and is currently engaged in the construction, construction material production, overseas jobs and employment, education and tourism businesses.

Hundreds of Mongolian companies have been supplying goods and services to Oyu Tolgoi. The above company established a relationship with Oyu Tolgoi in 2011. Recently it has built and handed over an extension and dormitory of Polytechnic College, a Darkhan-Uul aimag-based subsidiary of University of Science and Technology with the Oyu Tolgoi LLC funding. The extension has a capacity to train 250 students, and the student dorm is equipped with 108 beds.

Although Zag LLC is a contractor of the construction works, it had been developed and strengthened extensively as result of collaboration with the large-scale international project. It had also attended all of their staff in Oyu Tolgoi LLC-led safety training so that they could have required skill and knowledge. Safety is vital for construction and infrastructure works. Oyu Tolgoi LLC is committed to highest standards of safety for workers. In line with this all contractors ensure a strict compliance with those requirements at all construction sites.

Zag LLC Contract Officer E.Baigalmaa shared: “We had a lot to learn from Oyu Tolgoi as this company implements the world-class standards. Our company had constructed high quality buildings and handed over them on time. We had permanently employed 150 to 200 workers at the peak of construction season. Moreover, we have recruited local qualified workers generating new jobs.”
