Oyu Tolgoi launches thorough investigation into double fatality

Oyu Tolgoi President and Chief Executive Officer Cameron McRae is visiting the Oyu Tolgoi site in the South Gobi to meet with the Oyu Tolgoi workforce and express his deep regret following Thursday’s tragic incident.

An international team of safety professionals from Rio Tinto, Ivanhoe and Fluor has been mobilised to assist Oyu Tolgoi with the investigation. They will be arriving on site Tuesday 24 May.

The two men who died were Mongolian technicians working for a waste water facilities installation and maintenance contractor.

Three Buddhist Lamas travelled to site along with trauma counsellors to provide assistance and counselling to the workers across the site.

Mr. McRae said: “The safety of every single person who works at Oyu Tolgoi is of the utmost importance to us. We have launched a thorough investigation into what happened. Lessons learned from this incident will be promptly acted upon.”
