Resettlement activities were conducted with the agreement of the Khanbogd soum Governor, the affected herder households and Oyu Tolgoi LLC, in accordance with the Investment Agreement with the Government of Mongolia, applicable Mongolian Laws, International Finance Corporation Performance Standard 5, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Performance Condition 5, and Rio Tinto standards.
In 2004, 10 herder households living in the vicinity of the mine site were resettled. In 2011, 89 compensation agreements were signed with the herder households where economic impacts of the Oyu Tolgoi project identified where offsite infrastructure developments such as raw water pipeline, airport, road and powerline to the China border took place.
Under our RAP we work to minimise land acquisition, relocation and resettlement, and to accurately determine the types and extent of impacts on impacted communities and ensure community involvement.
