– Fifty employees from Oyu Tolgoi participated in the opening ceremony of the Naadam –

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia – On Friday, 50 employees from Oyu Tolgoi participated in the opening ceremony of the National Naadam festival dedicated to the 2,223rd Anniversary of the Mongolia's First Statehood, the 808th Anniversary of the Great Mongol Empire and the 93rd Anniversary of the People's Revolution.

It is a national custom for Mongolians to vigorously celebrate Naadam under a bright summer sun. In order to entertain and amuse viewers, the Naadam opening ceremony is developed and changed each year. This year’s event featured 25 of the top Mongolian companies who each sent employees to take part in the opening parade. Oyu Tolgoi was named as one of these companies, a year after the commencement of shipment of product to international markets.

Ts.Burenhishig, operator at Open Pit, who took part in the parade said:  “To the rhythm of traditional Mongolian melodies, we participated in the Naadam parade. As we marched together, under the national flag of Mongolia, thousands of spectators wearing bright national clothes waved their greetings to us."

Pamela Petten, from Canada, who is responsible for Talent Management at Oyu Tolgoi, also took part, alongside her Mongolian colleagues. Pamela said: “It was a huge honour for me to be a part of such a historic Mongolian tradition. I arrived here two and a half years ago, but this was my first time to experience Naadam celebrations.  This was definitely one of my most memorable experiences in Mongolia.”
