– Local communities enjoy preferential employment opportunities –
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia – Representatives from Oyu Tolgoi LLC meet with citizens of Khanbogd, in Umnugobi province, regularly to hear opinions on a variety of issues. Every meeting has a distinctive agenda and this past engagement covered the topics of employment and training.
Prior to the meeting, we conducted a short training to counsel residents on how to choose the right job, write a professional CV and cover letter and how to prepare for the selection interview process. The citizens were grateful for this opportunity and actively participated in the training.
The residents of Khanbogd asked many questions regarding employment and training and detailed information was provided by various company specialists and directors from HR and the Training Department of Oyu Tolgoi. The citizens were especially intrigued by the fact that local citizens enjoy preferential employment opportunities and that 1,749 citizens from the province have had a hand in project development.
“Just two weeks ago, we opened a new technical training centre in Khanbogd, which is the first in the Gobi region. The training centre will not only prepare technical specialists for Oyu Tolgoi, but will also serve as a 'Palace of Education' for Khanbogd citizens and citizens of the Gobi region. Therefore, it provides the opportunity to study in many short and long term courses” said T. Bayarsaikhan, Vice President Regional Development and Social Performance, Oyu Tolgoi LLC.
Following the meeting, Khanbogd citizens participated in a 'Labor Fair' and received handouts, application forms and brochures with information on job vacancies at Oyu Tolgoi and contractor companies.
