Press release: The School of Technology in Nalaikh saves energy and reduces heat loss

– The vocational school in Nalaikh district is being built using new technology –

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia – Oyu Tolgoi is making a long-term, large investment in the vocational education sector of Mongolia. Under the framework of a total US$ 126 million investment in the Mongolian vocational educational sector, Oyu Tolgoi is building a Technological School of Excellence in the Nalaikh district of Ulaanbaatar. G.Batsukh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Oyu Tolgoi, and other officials, recently visited the construction site and and reviewed the construction process. The school complex includes 6,000 square metres of classrooms and 2,500 square metres of student dormitories, housing units for the teachers, sports fields and a gym. The school design is energy efficient and uses heat saving technology. Solar energy can be obtained from the windows that make up most of the front of the school building. These windows have triple chambers that keep out the cold and retain the internal heat. In addition to this there is a very thick foam, insulating layer on the exterior of the building. The material is compressed and hard so it retains the maximum amount of heat.

This new technology is one of the best solutions for energy efficiency in Mongolia’s harsh winter climate.
