Press release: Oyu Tolgoi’s Safety Management System meets Mongolian and international standards

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia – Oyu Tolgoi LLC is proudly sponsoring the third Mongolian Safety First Forum and Exhibition, taking place in the town of Erdenet this week.

This year’s forum is focusing on addressing challenges related to mining responsibility in Mongolia and assessing and solving safety-related risks and problems in the mining industry. The event allows companies to share experiences and information relating to safety.

Oyu Tolgoi’s environmental and occupational health and safety management system was adopted in 2012 in line with ISO 14001, OHSAS18001 international standards. Oyu Tolgoi’s HSE management system has been developed to meet both Mongolian legislation and the high international standards of Rio Tinto.

Speaking at the forum, M.Ganbold, Oyu Tolgoi Metallurgical superintendent said: “Rio Tinto, after coming into Mongolia’s mining sector, made an important contribution to bringing about a drastic change in the culture, techniques and practices which drive the safety of our national workforce.”

The exhibition held as part of the forum displays safety gear and equipment used in the mining industry, and stalls and presentations from mining companies across the country.
