– Facility will be key to safety and standards –
Монгол Улс, Улаанбаатар хот – Oyu Tolgoi LLC today launched a new Trades Training Centre at the Oyu Tolgoi mine site. The centre, which can accommodate 100 students per shift, features both classrooms and practical training facilities equipped with modern industrial training equipment. By bringing together theoretical teaching with more hands-on facilities, the centre will help workers and apprentices transition from the classroom to the workplace.
At the opening ceremony, Oyu Tolgoi LLC's General Manager, Human Resources, Benjamin Briggs said: "This facility is one part of our Apprentice and Trades Training programme, which we launched in December last year. It is designed to benefit both our existing tradespeople, and our new apprentices, providing the opportunity to build upon our existing knowledge and skills in line with internationally recognised standards."
Teacher I.Jargal of the Dornod aimag Polytechnical College, who attended the opening ceremony, said: "The unique feature of this centre is its close proximity to the mine’s operations. The classrooms and practical training facilities are closely linked to each other, creating a unique learning environment."
A.Bayarmagnai, Oyu Tolgoi LLC’s Superintendent, Trades Training said: "Investing in apprentices is about investing in the future. We currently have a total of 155 apprentices on site. Along with another 291 professional tradespeople, this means we have more than 400 people currently involved in trades training. This centre will be a huge part of this training going forward”
Experienced Mongolian teachers, accredited to Australian curriculum standards, will lead the training taking place at the centre.
