Press release: Oyu Tolgoi improves skill of its employees to provide emergency first aid

 

Skill and knowledge to provide emergency first aid can be used not only in work places but in any other conditions

Oyu Tolgoi is developing a world-class mine in Khanbogd soum, Umnugobi aimag, a mine that will be the key vehicle for the economic development of Mongolia. Oyu Tolgoi is planning to start mining the first ore this year and from the next year to process and sell products to the international market. During the operational phase of Oyu Tolgoi mine, 90 percent of employees will be Mongolian nationals.  

Oyu Tolgoi complies with Mongolian laws and regulations and standards of State Specialized  Agency and ensures health, safety of all employees for its everyday activities.

Safety and health aspect of Oyu Tolgoi does not only cover workers at the mine site but also employees working in the office. Oyu Tolgoi is introducing international best practices in Mongolia, conducting trainings to give and improve skill and knowledge of all employees to deliver emergency first aid.

Paul Gerber, Oyu Tolgoi Manager in charge of Health and Safety issues, said “About one hundred and fifty employees of Oyu Tolgoi working in Ulaanbaatar, Dalanzadgad, Khanbogd branch offices received skills and knowledge to provide emergency first aid. Through this initiative Oyu Tolgoi aims to provide the emergency first aid skills and knowledge to its 1 out of every 10 employees and the employee training on first aid is very important health and safety indicator of responsible mining company.”

Paul Gerber continued “Oyu Tolgoi also conducted  first aid training for local herders who live in the mine impact areas. Currently, 72 herders and 42 local suppliers have been involved in the emergency first aid training. For these herders who live far from urban areas and can’t access emergency first aid services, gaining the skill and knowledge to provide emergency first aid demonstrates Oyu Tolgoi’s commitment in community development and fulfilling its social responsibility.”
