Press release: Nine Oyu Tolgoi employees receive state awards

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia – This week, by order of the President of Mongolia, nine employees of Oyu Tolgoi LLC received state awards. Principal resource geologist, Otgonbayar Togtokhbayar received the Order of the Polar Star. Driver, Tumurbaatar Chuluunbat; Principal advisor, biodiversity, Dorjderem Sukhragchaa; Senior Engineer, mine planning, Ider Gerelkhuu; service employee, Odgerel Budragchaa; Senior carpenter Bayaraa Badarch; Manager, concentrate and compliance, Ganbold Malkhuuz; Supervisor, site support, Nanjid Nyamgerel; and Board secretariat specialist, Baasantseren Tumurbat were awarded with the Honorary Medal of Labour.

Yesterday, State Secretary of the Ministry of Mining, R.Jigjid presented the awards and congratulated the employees. He said: “I am confident that the Oyu Tolgoi project will be successfully implemented. The state highly appreciates your hard work and contributions to this great development project. I wish you all success, health and all the best in your work.”

President and CEO of Oyu Tolgoi, Craig Kinnell received and congratulated the employees awarded with state orders and medals and said: “On behalf of the company management, I would like to congratulate all of you on receiving these high state awards. The state has appreciated your hard work and contribution to the development of Mongolia and Oyu Tolgoi through these awards. I am really proud of you all.”

T.Otgonbayar has been working at Oyu Tolgoi since 2002. He contributed significantly to introducing new methods of geological analysis, organisation and management of drill sample quality monitoring. This led to the provision of accurate geological data to determine the Oyu Tolgoi deposit reserves. B.Odgerel has been working with Oyu Tolgoi LLC since the company was founded and is a mentor to younger employees. N.Nanjid has helped create the conditions to help the company operate sustainably, upgrade systems and introduce new technology to networks and systems. G.Ider has worked at Oyu Tolgoi for over a decade. He first introduced the open pit internal stockpile transportation management system and cost-saving technology to increase open pit transport capacity, stripping and environmental rehabilitation. M.Ganbold successfully led the concentrate team as it ramped up plant technologies and improved the main indicators of production. B.Bayaraa worked for the state for over 40 years, carrying out all tasks reliably. Ch.Tumurbaatar has worked with Oyu Tolgoi since the very beginning and is a senior employee who provides a strong example to younger workers. S.Dorjderem has contributed to making Oyu Tolgoi’s environmental monitoring programme reach international standards as well as introducing new methods and technologies for biological rehabilitation in Gobi region.
