Press release: New graduates will learn new experience in a world-class mine

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia – Sixteen new graduates, under the Oyu Tolgoi supported graduate development programme, on the eve of the Mongolian lunar New Year left for the United States. They would be undergoing a one-year industrial training at the 130-year old Kennecott mine in Utah, operated by Rio Tinto. These young people, from the time they joined the graduate development programme, had been working at various department of Oyu Tolgoi such as the concentrator, open pit, asset management, environment and security.

Kh. Unurmunkh of the graduate development programme, who left for the United States with his family said: “Young people like me are sincerely grateful to Oyu Tolgoi for the opportunity given us to undertake industrial training both inside and outside of the country and learn in new trade and profession. I will try my level best to accomplish high professionalism.”

The objective of the graduate development programme, which was launched in 2011, is spearheaded at training qualified professionals for the company. Participants in this programme have the opportunity not only to accumulate experience working should-to-shoulder with experienced teams but also get a chance to attend trainings and programmes that help improve their knowledge and skills.

As of today 83 new graduates have taken part in this program and are working in Australia, United State, UK, Singapore as well as in Ulaanbaatar and Oyu Tolgoi.
