Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia – A week of activity to increase road safety in Khanbogd soum has been launched. Local traffic police, with the support of Oyu Tolgoi, will monitor speed limits and the technical maintenance of vehicles including the buses used to shuttle workers between the soum and Oyu Tolgoi mine.
Last week, road safety training aimed at local herders took place in Khanbogd organised by the soum traffic police, Adolescent Development Centre NGO and Oyu Tolgoi. The training provided education on traffic rules around the increasing number of paved roads and highways in the area.
The training was designed to help local herders identify road safety risks when tending cattle and animals, understand the basics of first aid during a road accident and to support safe behavior relating to roads and traffic. This was the fourth training event of its type and was appreciated by the participating herders.
