Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia – Oyu Tolgoi LLC uses the latest technology and equipment in its operations. One such example is the Komatsu HD 785 water truck. Mining operations and concentrate transportation can create dust, so Oyu Tolgoi uses these high tech water trucks to reduce and suppress dust levels.
The Komatsu HD 785 water trucks at the Oyu Tolgoi mine site, have a 20,000 gallon (75,700 litre) water tank. They are manufactured in the U.S. by Mega Corporation. These trucks use a water pump designed to deliver water at up to 135 gallons (511 litres) per minute. The water delivery is fully automatic and high capacity. The operator has a multi-function control box mounted in the cab to control water delivery. The spray heads, spray bar, high-pressure spray nozzle and a manually operated hose reel are mounted on the truck’s water tank. The truck uses wastewater and the water delivery is very economic, using a fog spraying system. The two water trucks have an unladen weight of 72 tonnes and a maximum payload of 91 tonnes.
