Press release: A ceremony to host the Great Buddhist scripture has been held in South Gobi

– Oyu Tolgoi sponsors a ceremony to host Ganjuur and Danjuur, the great Buddhist scriptures of Mongolia, in the South Gobi region –

Umnugobi, Mongolia – A ceremony to host Ganjuur and Danjuur, the great Buddhist scriptures of Mongolia, in the central library of South Gobi province and Maanii temple, a local Buddhist temple, was held yesterday. Oyu Tolgoi LLC organised and sponsored this ceremony. Ganjuur and Danjuur, the great Buddhist scriptures of Mongolia are registered as world cultural heritage treasures by UNESCO. Making a home for these scriptures in the South Gobi region is a significant intellectual investment for the residents and future generations of South Gobi province. During the ceremony, G.Buyandelger, head of the 'Glorious Wheel of Time' cultural center said: "The choice of the nomadic people of Mongolia in the creation of these great intellectual masterpieces in the past is demonstrated by the great sutras of Ganjuura and Danjuur. Creation of this series of Buddhist sutras shows Mongolian people have respect, wisdom and intellect and reached perfection of wisdom." 

Oyu Tolgoi is not only conducting mining operations, but also implementing significant programmes in the local community. One such project is to protect and preserve the cultural heritage of the South Gobi region, including the protection and preservation of intangible cultural heritage and paleonthological findings.
