Oyu Tolgoi Youth Development Programme students awarded certificates at Ulaanbaatar event

Graduates of the Oyu Tolgoi Youth Development Programme on Monday received their certificates after completing three months of training in leadership and capacity development.

Batsukh Galsan – Chairman of the Oyu Tolgoi Board of Directors presented the certificates, saying: “Knowledge is endless. Keep working hard. You are the future of Oyu Tolgoi and Mongolia.

L. Luvsanjamts, Head of the Innovation and Hi-tech Department at the Ministry of Education and Science, said: “This programme is critically important for helping students become valuable citizens in the future and attaining the right qualifications.”

Each year, high school graduates are selected to take part in the initial stages of the programme with the top five students receiving scholarships to study at national universities, and continuing training opportunities. This year, 220 applications were received from 45 public and five private schools in Ulaanbaatar, and 56 students were selected to take part in the programme.

The programme was set up in 2013 to provide capacity development for those taking part in Oyu Tolgoi’s national and international scholarship programme; helping students develop relevant skills in their transition from high school to university.

The training focuses on areas of personal development such as self-awareness, and skills like team work and leadership, project management, critical thinking and problem solving.
