Guided by its vision, “To create enduring value, knowledge and skill”, Oyu Tolgoi LLC has always prioritised the development of highly skilled and competitive workforce by investing in tertiary and vocational educational sectors. Today, Oyu Tolgoi LLC introduced its key educational programmes and awarded certificates to the students, who were granted Oyu Tolgoi’s international scholarships. During the event, Mr J.Zanabazar, Chair of the Khanbogd soum’s Citizens Representatives Council, made a presentation on ” Khanbogd Soum’s Development Policy and Partnership” promoting the soum development policy to the students and young people, encouraging them to work and live in the local area. Over 200 university students and lecturers attended the event and were briefed on the Oyu Tolgoi’s educational and other capability development programmes.
Oyu Tolgoi has been cooperating closely with Khanbogd soum and Umnugovi province and providing support for the local development. This time, Oyu Tolgoi LLC announced the international scholarship to support the training of the personnel required in the soum, and presented scholarship certificates to the four successful applicants, who will study overseas pursuing postgraduate degrees in Health (1 applicant) and Education management (3 applicants). In particular, the international scholarship holders will live and work in Khanbogd soum at least three years after their successful graduation of the Master’s degree programmes by bringing and spreading the fruits of their learnings at the world-class universities. Since 2010, Oyu Tolgoi LLC has invested USD2.5 million to provide international scholarships for 44 students to study in the US, Canada and Australia. The international scholarship covers tuition and dormitory fees, study materials and books, monthly living allowance, visa and international travel expenses.
In addition, D. Doljinsuren, Program Officer, MONFEMNET National Network, delivered a presentation on the “Safe School” project, implemented jointly by Oyu Tolgoi LCC, MONFEMNET and school #1 of Khanbogd soum. With funding from Oyu Tolgoi LLC, the project has been implemented since June 2018 with the aim to build safe studying environment, free from violence, especially gender-based violence, targeting 9-11th graders in Khanbogd soum, their parents, school staff and teachers.
37 students who successfully completed the 2nd and 3rd stages of the Youth Development Programme, which is announced in September among high school students every year, were awarded with their certificates of completion. The programme provides young people with great opportunities for personal development through involvement in peer education, extracurricular personal development trainings and domestic scholarship programmes.
