Oyu Tolgoi, Umnugovi Governor’s Office and Business Innovation and Growth Centre (BIG) successfully organised a small and medium-sized enterprise expo, themed “Made in Umnugovi”, in Dalanzadgad on 23-24 of May, 2019. Representatives from 15 different mining companies operating in the Umnugovi region took part in the expo to explore opportunities on further expanding partnership opportunities, specifically, procuring goods and services of more than 100 participating companies’ of Umnugovi.
Derrick Hansen, General Manager of Oyu Tolgoi’s Procurement department said: “Oyu Tolgoi has a strong focus in developing a safe and competitive local supply chain where small and medium-sized enterprises play a critical role. With support from the Umnugovi province and the BIG Centre, we are confident that we will continue to improve the local supply chain.”One of the highlights of the expo was the opening of the Umnugovi branch of the “Business Innovation and Growth Centre”, jointly established by Umnugovi aimag, GIZ, Gobi Oyu Development Support Fund and Oyu Tolgoi LLC. With the help of the BIG Centre, Umnugovi entrepreneurs will be able to receive various trainings and business management training sessions that are essential to create successful businesses. The focus areas are environment, health and safety, business ethics, business administration and supply chain management.
