​Oyu Tolgoi joins safety campaign to protect the health and safety of volunteer firefighters

The hand-over ceremony of personal protective clothes for volunteer firefighters took place in Zuunmod, Tuv Province yesterday. The ceremony was organized in the framework of “Firefighter protected”, a wildfire prevention campaign that was initiated and implemented by alumni of Women’s Leadership Program of Australia Awards Mongolia.
Human health and safety is Oyu Tolgoi’s first and foremost priority. Therefore, we have sponsored the project with MNT 12’000’000 (twelve million), which was implemented jointly with the National Emergency Management Agency.
In the framework of the project, project managers planned to donate personal protective clothes to volunteer firefighters of Zaamar soum of Tuv province and Khuder soum of Selenge province, of which the first batch was handed over to Zaamar soum governor Sumya.B yesterday.
The ceremony was attended by Baigalmaa Shurka, Oyu Tolgoi LLC’s General Manager Communities, Australian Ambassador to Mongolia John Langtry, and Tuv province Governor and head of special commission of province Batjargal.B, with the participation of project team members and media representatives.
Personal protective clothes are of vital importance when working in an unsafe environment. During the ceremony, the local authorities expressed their gratitude for understanding the situation that volunteers work under, and providing them with personal protective clothes.
