During a ceremony at Sukhbaatar square today, Oyu Tolgoi handed over various vehicles and equipment to the Government of Mongolia, in support of fighting current wildfire situation and for preventative measures. The contribution is an important example of Oyu Tolgoi’s commitment to safety, and partnership with the community and the Government of Mongolia, and environmental stewardship.
Opening the ceremony State Secretary – Ministry of Environment and Tourism Tsengel Ts., said “An important event is being held today. Over 140 wildfire cases have been reported in 56 soums of 13 provinces in Mongolia this year. As a consequence, 600 thousand hectare area, or 30 percent of entire forest of Mongolia, have been exposed to the fire and the country has never faced such damage before. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Armando Torres and the Oyu Tolgoi team on behalf of Government of Mongolia, as well as the Environment and Tourism Ministry for answering our request promptly, and calling other organizations to this challenge and meeting social responsibility.”

Oyu Tolgoi CEO Armando Torres presented the certificate to Tsengel.Ts, the state secretary of Ministry of Environment and Tourism – representing company’s donation of two Land Cruiser vehicles, 359 overalls, eight fire hoses, one collapsible water tank, 200 plastic totes, two ladders and 35 hand shovels.
In addition, company provided a Land Cruiser vehicle, a flatbed truck and a water truck to the GoM in a short-term lending arrangement. Representatives of Ministry of Environment and Tourism, National Police Agency, NEMA and management of Protected Areas participated in the ceremony.
Today’s donation follows Oyu Tolgoi and Oyu Tolgoi funded Gobi Oyu Fund’s earlier contribution of MNT53mn to NEMA. Today’s donation follows Oyu Tolgoi and Gobi Oyu DSF’s earlier contribution of MNT53million worth personal protective equipment and cash to NEMA on 18 July.
