Oyu Tolgoi has signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Emergency Management Agency on “Cooperation in Disaster Prevention”

Major General G. Ariunbuyan emphasized that Oyu Tolgoi is making a valuable contribution to improving Mongolia’s disaster management capabilities by cooperating with emergency management organizations and in the future, our cooperation will contribute to implement the government’s disaster prevention policy, strengthen the capacity of emergency management organizations, train the population in safe living skills, and reduce the risk of disasters.
“On behalf of everyone at Oyu Tolgoi and myself, I would like to express our sincere gratitude to the thousands of incredibly brave men and women at NEMA who work around the clock, putting themselves into harm’s way so that others are safe and sound.
Disasters and catastrophes do not knock on our doors. They come uninvited.
We cannot predict when and where the next disaster will strike but we can do our best to prepare for it. “Be Ready” campaign is a good example.
Our partnership has been tested numerous times. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the State Emergency Committee and NEMA played a critical role in Oyu Tolgoi’s undisrupted operations. During the recent floods, Oyu Tolgoi donated equipment and other items of use to mitigate its impact, however, it would not have been successful without the presence of emergency personnel. This is a mutually beneficial form of our cooperation.
A Mongolian saying goes “a friend’s worth is revealed in dire times”. And Oyu Tolgoi wants to be as much of a worthy friend to NEMA as they are for us.” – Deirdré Lingenfelder, CEO, Oyu Tolgoi.
