– Now local residents can receive faster medical care and services –
Oyu Tolgoi contributes significantly to the development of Mongolia. The mining company always cares about the local community it operates in and contributes to the social well-being of the local residents. Acting on this policy, Oyu Tolgoi have donated an ambulance to the inter-soum medical center in Khanbogd soum. Having a second ambulance, allows the medical center to provide more rapid medical care and services to Khanbogd soum residents as well as residents of neighboring soums.
The ambulance, a 2011 Toyota Land Cruiser-78, is fully equipped for medical emergencies and is designed to provide emergency medical service, even over the rough road conditions of the Gobi. The cost of the ambulance is approximately 100 million MNT.
Oyu Tolgoi also conducted training, in partnership with SOS Medica Mongolia, for the hospital staff and drivers of the new ambulance.
During the ceremony to hand over the ambulance, Oyu Tolgoi Vice-President for Regional Development and Social Performance, Bayarsaihan Tumurdavaa, said, “Oyu Tolgoi always cares about the health, safety and well-being of its employees, their families and local residents. We are very happy that our goal and policy became a reality today. The donation of the ambulance is part of our commitment to the well-being of the local community”.
In 2008 Oyu Tolgoi donated the first ambulance to the hospital of Khanbogd soum. Since then the ambulance has covered 112,000 kilometres and provided total of 114 emergency medical services.

At least 9 out of 10 employees will be Mongolian once the mine is in production and Oyu Tolgoi is investing US$58 million dollars (78 billion MNT) in training and education and an additional US$27 million dollars (36 billion MNT) in the Workforce Employment Project designed to help address the general skills shortage in Mongolia
