Oyu Tolgoi announces its scholarship programmes

Oyu Tolgoi LLC is committed to human development and education,
organising a wide range of programmes and projects such as provision of
school buildings and scholarships and joint designing of tertiary
subject guides with universities. We provide educational opportunities
for both high school students and tertiary students. Since 2011, over
2,600 students have enrolled in Oyu Tolgoi’s educational programmes and
received various scholarship opportunities.

We are pleased to announce five different scholarship programmes for the 2020-2021 academic year, and we will award 145 students in total. The applications will open on September 15 and close on October 25.

Domestic scholarship
This full scholarship is available for second to fourth-year tertiary
students enrolling in mining courses in Mongolian universities. 315
students have received this scholarship since 2011 so far. The
scholarship fully covers tuition costs and provides monthly stipend, and
if the awardee hails from rural area, the student is entitled to
accommodation fees. The awardees will be also provided with the
opportunity to enroll in the Youth Development Programme for personal
development. 20 students will be awarded this year.

Geotechnical scholarship
– A brand new scholarship as part of the joint Oyu Tolgoi and Mongolian
National University of Science and Technology programme. The purpose of
this programme is to prepare globally competitive geotechnical
engineers capable of planning and executing geotechnical works and
monitoring and mitigating risks. 20 students will be awarded this year.

Graduate Excellence Path
– Rio Tinto group-level programme provides opportunities for newly
graduated students to gain experience and learn skills while working
with professionals on the field. A total of 122 students have
participated in this programme. The four-year programme provides
opportunity for awardees for becoming leading professionals. We will
announce the details in October.

Youth Development Programme
– It is designed to upskill high school students. 1,906 students have
participated in this programme. 50 students will be awarded this year.
Awardees will participate in personal development training for eight
weeks, and design and implement projects in a team setting.

Gobi Oyu Student scholarship
– The programme is exclusively designed for the tertiary students from
Umnugovi province. A total of 187 students have participated in this
programme, and 55 students will be awarded this year, and we will select
30 new awardees.
