Press release: The youth of Khanbogd hold a conference to discuss development issues

– This event will become a local tradition –

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia – The Youth Forum of Khanbogd soum in Umnugobi aimag was held during August. The conference, organised by Oyu Tolgoi, covered issues including youth employment, entrepreneurship and animal husbandry. The impressive line up of presenters included the distinguished herdsman D.Khuuhen, Olympic champion E.Badar-Uugan and delegates from local government.

Participants in the conference visited the Oyu Tolgoi project site and its large construction developments. They also got their hands dirty and cleaned up the Ikh Bulag area of Khanbogd soum and irrigated the saplings and shrubs in the tree nursery.

Their experience wasn’t all work and no play, the Youth Forum delegates enjoyed plenty of entertainment and fun activities over the three day conference, including sporting events and singing competitions. 

A result of the cooperation between the Regional Development and Social Performance Department of Oyu Tolgoi LLC, Shine Khanbogd NGO, the government of Khanbogd soum and the Green Club youth union of Oyu Tolgoi LLC; the Youth Forum of Khanbogd soum is set to become a local, biennial tradition.
