Press release: Oyu Tolgoi to share environmental rehabilitation experiences

– Mine development and environmental rehabilitation work continues simultaneously –  

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia – 'Mine Closure and Environmental Rehabilitation', the seventh theoretical and practical conference, will be held on 13-15 September. Host and sponsor, Oyu Tolgoi LLC, will share ‘best practice’ experiences at the conference organised by the General Agency for Specialised Inspection, German Geoscience and the Natural Resources Agency.

The aim of the conference is to discuss reform of the environmental protection laws. Participants will also review the results and outcomes of the new and innovative environmental protection and rehabilitation work done by Oyu Tolgoi. They will also be  reviewing preliminary planning of the rehabilitation work to be conducted during the mine development. The conference delegates will visit the mine site to see actual rehabilitation work and share and exchange best practices and experiences. Over 300 delegates, representing regional and county inspectors of the General Agency for Specialised Inspection and environmental staff of the mining companies, will take part in the conference.
