– This complex ranks second in Mongolia for its quality and capacity –
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia – Healthy mind and healthy body. In recent years people have begun recognised the benefit of investing in their health. Large companies and government bodies have also taken the initiative of investing in the health of their employees. Mongolia’s world class mining company, Oyu Tolgoi, has made a significant investment in the health of employees by constructing a new recreation centre. The opening ceremony, held on 24 October, was attended by Oyu Tolgoi President and CEO, Cameron McRae; Mongolian National Olympics Committee Vice-President, Ts.Damdin; London Olympics Silver Medalist and Merited Athlete of Mongolia, N.Tugstsogt and World Champion Kickboxer, Ts.Amarbayasgalan. Oyu Tolgoi President and CEO, Cameron McRae shared: “We are constructing a world-class mine so we have built a world-class recreation centre at the mine. I sincerely hope that all our employees will now have a place where they can play sport and exercise. Sport plays an important part in life for me and my family, that’s why I exercise every day. This complex enables our employees be physically active and healthy”.
For company employees the opening of the centre was a highly anticipated event and the basketball competition, held as a part of the opening, was hotly contested. The recreation centre enables Oyu Tolgoi workers to play all kinds of sports and improve the quality their leisure time. The centre, ranking second only to the Buyant-Uhaa complex in terms of quality, equipment and capacity, includes indoor basketball and volleyball courts, a gym, fitness centre, bodybuilding equipment, aerobics studio, changing rooms, a Wellness Café, a reception area and outdoor courts for winter and summer sports and outdoor activities.
Constructed by local Mongolian company, Barilga Corporation LLC, using advanced construction technology and equipment, the recreation centre took nearly 100 employees less than eight months to complete.

This recreation centre is vital for them to take time out from their work, to enjoy their leisure time, to be physically active and in turn, work productively. If a country’s progress is measured by construction and development, humans’ progress is measured by health and physical development. On behalf of the Mongolian National Olympics Committee we appreciate your efforts in building this recreation centre”.

“I like playing basketball. Before the complex was opened we used to play in the small hall. The increase in the number of company employees has necessitated a larger facility. We are happy that such a big sports complex has opened today. I have a sedentary desk job, I don’t get to move much during the day. That’s why I need sport, exercise and physical activity.”
